The surrounding muscle looked and smelled normal, but I trimmed a little more of it. I continued slicing and removed a capsule of tissue from a place between muscles where there shouldn’t be such a thing – an abscess, I assumed. I expected a bad odor, but it had no smell I could detect, which was odd. Did this mean I must discard the entire deer? But green of radioactive lime sherbet? Never. Red of muscle, white of bone and fat, these shades I know. ![]() As I peeled back the thick outer rind of rump fat and sliced with a sharp knife to separate membrane from meat, I released something evil – a thick, green goo oozed from a pocket somewhere between the top and bottom round. But in January 2022, while breaking down the hindquarter of a healthy 2½-year-old doe I killed the last week of Georgia’s deer season, I encountered something I’d never faced before. Over years of processing my own deer at home, I’ve learned my way around deer anatomy and seen a lot of odd and interesting things. They recognized current NWA World champion Pat O’Connor as their first champion with the stipulation of O’Connor having to defend the title within 90 days. Due to that, Minneapolis and some other territories broke away from the NWA and formed the American Wrestling Association. It’s taking time, but as soon as it’s finished, it’ll be online.Īt the time, the National Wrestling Alliance wouldn’t grant Verne Gagne a shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. I know I said that the ROH World Tag Team and Television Championships would be next, but the tag titles are taking a lot of time to do.ĭue to some teams only being together for a short time, their career highlights are very short, so I had to go back to the old way of doing the series so the slides aren’t bare. The title has seen a total 38 champions throughout its 30 years of existence, so let’s get started! The AWA World Heavyweight Championship was established when the company formed with then-NWA champion Pat O’Connor being recognized as champion. The company would close its doors in 1991, and is now owned by WWE. When WCW was officially formed, the AWA fell behind further and became inactive in 1990. Throughout the 1980s, the WWF ditched being a northeastern region and started to become the national entity that it is today. ![]() The AWA also saw the rise of Hulk Hogan in the early 1980s, but after he and many other top talent like Adrian Adonis and Bobby Heenan jumped to the WWF, now WWE, the AWA began to decline. In response, Gagne and Wally Karbo, who ran the territory, broke ties with the NWA to form the AWA.įor 30 years, the AWA sold itself on technical wrestling and expanded to cities like Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas and San Francisco, while also up in Canada. Minneapolis wanted Gagne to be the champion, but the NWA would not agree. The NWA was all about territories back then with the NWA World Heavyweight champion travelling from territory to territory defending the title. Known as NWA Minneapolis, the top star in the territory was Verne Gagne. The American Wrestling Association was founded in 1960, but before that, they were a part of the National Wrestling Alliance much like WWE was in the early days. For this very special edition of Abandoned, I present the AWA World Heavyweight Championship! Or if you think about it as someone taking a black marker pen and drawing a line around your midriff, that would be a single 'loop' which 'cuts' around your body following your contours, dips and general shape. It has a number of different functions in terms of how it edits a mesh, but the basic one is to simply cut a 'ring' or ' loop' around the mesh in a particular direction.ĭesign note: A 'loop' is basically a cross-section of an object. Now that we're in Edit mode, an essential tool for most modeling jobs is something called a " Loop Cut". Notice also that entering EDIT mode has changed the Tool Bar buttons a different set of tools are now available when in this mode to assist editing the mesh 'Loop Cuts' and dividing the mesh ^ Select the object with " RMB" and press " TAB" to enter edit mode - don't forget to MMB scroll to zoom in so you can see the mesh more clearly. You can also toggle selecting/deselecting all objects by pressing keyboard " A" Try RMB selecting the other objects to see what should happen when selecting an object the objects outline changes to a light pinkish colour. So in the Work Zone area Right-Mouse-Click ( RMB) the box object and then press the " TAB" key (on the left hand side of your keyboard, above "Caps Lock").ĭesign note: if the object is already selected nothing will appear to have happened. To get in to edit mode we first need to make sure to the mesh object is selected (if there were more than one mesh in a scene Blender will toggle edit mode based on the last object selected). ![]() This gives access to a number of tools and actions that allow the mesh to be cut, shaped and manipulated to create the desired general structure of an object. Most of the work done to the mesh itself is done in " Edit Mode". Switching to 'Perspective Mode' (NumPad 5) so the model can be seen properly as its made - this helps you see the shape of the object in correct perspective 'Edit' mode and editing the mesh object ^ Remember at all times that you can use the various key and mouse combinations mentioned previously to control your movement around the work zone, using those, manoeuvre the view around so you're looking at the mesh from the side similar to that shown below (MMB drag the screen), and zoom into it (MMB scroll). ![]() Before beginning we need to switch to ' Perspective Mode' so the mesh can be seen correctly as it's being made from the " View" menu under the 3D Work Zone area click " View > Perspective" - note the keyboard shortcut key " NumPad 5", pressing that toggles (switches) between 'perspective' and 'flat' mode ("Orthographic").ĭesign note: if you loose track of the object on screen press " C" to "re-centre" the scene which should bring the view camera back to looking at the object centre screen. Switching to "Perspective" mode ^įirst things first. In case you can't see the object just create a 'new' file by clicking " File > New" from the Header area menu - Blender will prompt you to " Erase All", click that to confirm, and a brand new default scene will load with cube centre stage with a light and camera objects to the sides of that. There's no need to add any new objects to the scene for this project, it will all be made using the cube 'primitive' shape available in the default scene. ![]() With that said, the best way to learn Blender is to just get stuck in and dirty, so that's what we'll do. In the event of a tie - the three confer and choose a winner/loser from the tied contestants. Highest points wins the week, lowest points goes home. That way we know why something makes it through or not. They each score their points and they're tallied. They should judge separately, so they aren't contaminating each others opinions. ![]() This also isn't based on whether something was easy/hard to do with glass, but whether it's something that you even like the looks of. This is a judgement on whether the work was compelling enough to hook you enough to want to learn more or spend more time with it. Rather than getting into the (often pretentious) justification for the art, this is the initial "wow" factor. This judge does NOT hear the backstory either. the bartender, the circus person, etc.) This judge has 10 points. This would be the role of the subject matter expert on functional pieces (eg. This judge DOES hear the artist's story about the piece and what they were trying to achieve/represent, so that they can judge the applicability to the theme, and how well it told the story the artist was going for. Judges on applicability to the task (for "functional" pieces) and/or artistic merit (for artistic pieces). It's solely a judgement on their glassworking skills. This judge (the glass expert) does NOT hear the story about the piece's "symbolism" or what the artist is trying to represent or achieve. Judges only on technical merit (difficulty, precision, etc). That's why the show needs three judges that each judge on DISTINCT aspects: However in prior years, sometimes it felt like they completely overlooked technical merit to let the "art story" have way too much precedence. So, it was really the artistic side that they were failing. They are only impressive from the technical side, because it was a difficult thing to make out of glass. If those sculptures were in any other medium, like clay, people wouldn't judge them as being anything special. ![]() It's hard to sculpt glass, so too much emphasis was given to "that texture doesn't even look like glass, that's really difficult." It was similar to a macaroni sculpture, where when someone says "wow that's amazing" what they mean is "wow that's amazing. I agree the judging is off on the show, but I think your evaluation that there is too little judging on technical merit is why season 3 happened is incorrect.įor S3, I think there was too MUCH deference to technical merit, and that's why he won. ![]() It asks if one who is so broken by an experience, such as war, is ever able to find healing? It looks at the burden so many carry when they refuse to open up about what truly haunts them the most in their life. ![]() Ultimately, the film asks some very important questions that will force the jury, I mean audience, to decide if the punishment and sentence fit the crime. Teplitzky is able to show that cumulative effect on all involved rather than just bathing the audience in the torture itself. Allowing the camera to get reaction shots of the soldiers witnessing such abuse, Mr. Some of the flashback scenes depicting the torture Eric Lomax experienced at the hands of his captors in the camp are brutal, but not manipulative or gratuitous as director Jonathan Teplitzky uses effective cut-aways. That is not to say that there aren’t emotional moments or visceral reactions to what is happening on screen, but that it is simply presented as facts in the case, as it were. I appreciated that while The Railway Man is dealing with issues of justice, hurt, and the effects it can have on so many lives after so much time is passed, it doesn’t seek to manipulate the audience one way or the other. And though this is not a courtroom drama, per se, its structure hints that it is clearly building a case where the audience is the jury being asked to decide if Eric Lomax has the right to continue to carry his burden so long after the events of the war, and if he has the right to enact revenge for what was done to him. The film spends much of its time demonstrating the effects of the war on the characters in 1980 with many flashbacks of 1942. Stellan Skarsgard is also effective as Lomax’s longtime friend Finlay. They are able to generate a subtle chemistry together that is believable despite having just a short time to showcase their budding romance. The Railway Man is a slow and methodical look at the life of Eric Lomax that is played skillfully by Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. One such ride brings him into the life of Patti (Nicole Kidman) who challenges him to open up to her and begin to deal with the hurt he is obviously suppressing. And though he still attends regular get-togethers with his old unit at a local pub, there has never really been any talk of what took place in 1942 at the camp.Īs a railroad enthusiast, Eric Lomax likes to ride the rails around The United Kingdom, collecting memorabilia. In good British fashion, he makes all the effort to maintain the appearance of a well-adjusted man in his early sixties. The Japanese are seeking to build the great railroad from Thailand to India on the backs of their prisoners to further build their empire.Ĭolin Firth plays Eric Lomax, who in 1980, is a man who still harbors great pain and stress from what he endured at the hands of his Japanese captors some 38 years prior. The Railway Man is a small film being distributed by The Weinstein Company that is based on the autobiography of Eric Lomax, a British military man in World War II who finds himself in a Japanese-run prison camp in 1942. ![]() We recommend Minor Feelings by Cathy Park Hong, The Making of Asian America: A History, Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, and Yolk by Mary H.
